Cindy Tutt-Rutter’s life as a burn survivor began more than 57 years ago, when she was 6 years old. She has since spent her life advocating on behalf of burn survivors. Cindy spent her professional career ascending the nursing ladder, becoming a burn nurse and eventually the nurse manager of the UCSD Regional Burn Center. Her new career has taken her to the field of Marriage and Family Therapy where she is currently an Intern and has hopes of continuing to work with burn survivors and their family members.
Cindy is a member of the Phoenix Society’s Aftercare Committee and is a frequent trainer of the SOAR program at the World Burn Congress. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation and a member of the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors SOAR National Advisory Committee. Cindy also has been involved as a facilitator in burn camps and adult retreats since 1992.
James Bosch, MA, LMFT
James become involved with burn camps as a camp counselor in the early 90s. Having been burned as an infant before burn camps were in existence, he was exited to discover a way to become a part of the healing experience of other burn injured children. He went on to becoming a Program Director and associate Executive Director for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation and a child specialist at their camp Champ Camp, helping counselors navigate the more complicated issues some burned children bring to the camp experience.
James went on to help develop several pivotal programs such as the CIT program, Young Adult Summit, Peer Support programs and Adult retreats. He has had the great fortune to work with many Burn Foundations in the USA and Canada to help develop adolescent based retreats and other social support programs. James speaks on trauma and burn recovery and facilitates support groups at conferences nationally and at his local burn center.
James has a private psychotherapy practice in San Francisco and provides public speaking and trainings on various mental health topics and throughout the USA and Canada. Acceptance of a new life, new body, and finding new meaning after trauma are at the core of his work. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, a founding member of the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors SOAR National Advisory Committee, Member of the Phoenix World Burn Mental Health Team and a consultant for various hospitals and burn agencies.
